The Head Golf Professional serves as the on-site golf leader and a visible driver of participation, programming, and revenue performance for the public golf facility. This role will be located at our Spy Ring Golf Course and will be responsible for managing and overseeing daily golf operations while executing and expanding organized play, instructional programs, player development, guest engagement, and the conversion of new and returning golfers. The position works in close alignment with the General Manager and Vice President of Golf Operations and has responsibility for training and development of direct reports and other golf staff.
The Head Golf Professional is expected to function as both a revenue driver and culture builder, strengthening current performance while fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment that encourages repeat play and long-term growth within the local golf community.
Requirements
Organized Play & Revenue Growth (Primary Focus)
Accountable for driving predictable, repeatable revenue through structured programmingDevelop, manage and grow leagues (men’s, women’s, junior, senior, corporate)Plan, manage and execute high-quality tournaments and eventsDevelop and manage promotional, holiday, and fundraising eventsIncrease participation and retention ratesImprove repeat play frequencyTrack and grow revenue per roundImplement yield management and tee sheet optimizationImprove pace of play and tee sheet utilizationGolf Operations Management
Manage and oversee tee sheet management, starting operations, and pace of playEnsure accurate collection and tracking of all fees and chargesMaintain oversight of golf cart fleet and practice facilitiesAdminister handicap program in accordance with governing guidelinesEnsure proper POS procedures and inventory controlsMaintain professional golf shop presentation and merchandising standardsSafeguard operational assets and revenuesPlayer Development and Instruction Philosophy
Develop and implement an inclusive instruction program (private and group)Create beginner-to-league pathways to support long-term engagementExpand women’s, junior, and family programmingRecruit and manage PGA professional instructors as applicableUtilize PGA of America player development tools and resourcesConvert instruction clients into league and event participantsTeam Leadership & Staff Development
Recruit, hire, train and supervise golf department staffManage Assistant Managers and oversee outside operations staffConduct evaluations and performance reviewsDevelop internal bench strength and succession readinessMaintain payroll accuracy and align labor with revenue levelsCoach staff to assume ownership of responsibilities Business & Financial Accountability
Responsible for the financial performance of golf operationsMonitor daily, weekly, and monthly revenue trendsAssist in budget preparation and forecastingImprove margins through programming and facility utilizationEnsure effective inventory management and purchasing controlsInterdepartmental Coordination
Collaborate with the Head of Agronomy and Assistant Superintendent on course setup and tournament preparationPartner with sales or guest services teams to support guest conversionAttend management meetings as requestedProvide consistent operational updates to leadershipRequired Skills and Qualifications:
PGA of America Member in Good StandingMinimum of three (3) years of progressive golf operations experience, preferably in a public or high-volume facilityProven track record of growing leagues, tournaments, and participationStrong leadership, team-building, and staff development skillsFinancial acumen with experience managing budgets and revenue targetsExceptional guest service orientation and communication skillsAbility to design, implement, and sustain repeatable programming systemsWhy Work With Heatherwood?
