About the Role
Lakewood National Golf Club , located in Bradenton, FL , is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a part-time Fitness Attendant ! We are seeking a driven individual who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow within a fast-paced hospitality-focused property organization. As part of Troon , you will contribute to a global leader in golf and community management.
Compensation:
$1.9.50 per hour
Summary:
This is a hands-on, high-visibility role. After an initial training period, you will help manage the day-to-day operation of the fitness center with minimal direction — supported by clear systems, procedures, and regular check-ins with the Director of Fitness.
We are looking for someone with real presence on the floor: a person members notice, approach, and trust. You will set the tone of the space, not just staff it. This is not a personal training position.
Schedule & Availability
Flexible availability is required. Please apply only if you can consistently meet the following:
-
Both weekend days — Saturday and Sunday availability is required during our peak season. Requested weekend days off can be accommodated with advance notice; we simply need weekends to be your norm rather than the exception during peak season months.
-
Morning opening shifts — start times are typically 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. Being reliably on time to open the facility is essential.
-
Occasional late afternoon shifts — roughly once a week, plus coverage as needed.
-
Flexibility during peak season, holidays, and club events.
Please note: scheduling becomes significantly more flexible during the summer months, when club activity slows. We work with our team on time-off requests and are happy to accommodate planned days off with reasonable notice.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the floor. Be an engaged, visible, approachable presence throughout every shift — greeting members by name, checking in on how their workout is going, offering help before it is asked for. Give fitness center orientations to new members.
- Work independently. Once trained, manage daily operations, prioritize your own tasks, and solve problems as they come up without waiting to be told.
- Take initiative and lead. Spot what needs improving and bring solutions forward. Suggest ideas for classes, member engagement, layout, and efficiency. Over time, take full ownership of class coordination and promotion.
- Enforce fitness center rules. Confidently and respectfully hold members to club policy — every time a violation occurs. This requires comfort with direct, courteous conversations.
- Opening and cleaning duties. Complete opening checklists thoroughly, inspect all equipment, report anything broken or in need of maintenance, and keep the space clean , sanitized, organized, and fully restocked throughout each shift.
- Booking system and class schedule management. Become fully proficient in our online booking software and group fitness schedule. Handle updates, changes, cancellations, and troubleshooting independently and accurately — schedule and booking errors are visible to members and must be caught before they post.
- Professional communication. Respond to member inquiries by phone, email, and in person promptly and courteously. Strong written and email etiquette is essential — clear, polished, professional correspondence that reflects the standards of a private club.
- Promote classes and drive engagement. Market group fitness classes and events using Canva and other tools, and actively recruit members into programming.
- Support special events and other departmental activities as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Availability that meets the schedule requirements above, including both weekend days and morning shifts.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and lead without close supervision.
- Outgoing, confident personality with strong people skills — comfortable initiating conversation with members and handling sensitive topics such as rule enforcement.
- Meticulous attention to detail. Schedules, bookings, and member records must be accurate the first time; errors directly affect member experience.
- Strong computer and software skills — able to learn and independently manage booking platforms, POS systems, email, promotional material, and scheduling tools.
- Professional email, phone, and written communication skills.
- Comfortable around fitness equipment with a working understanding of exercise, and able to show members how to safely use equipment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
- CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior fitness, hospitality, country club, or customer service experience.
- Experience with Canva or similar design tools for class and event promotion.
- Familiarity with fitness booking or club management software.
- Background or demonstrated interest in proper exercise technique.
What Success Looks Like in Your First 90 Days
- You open and run the facility independently, and shifts run smoothly whether or not the Director of Fitness is on site.
- You manage the booking system and class schedule accurately, with errors caught before members see them.
- Members know you by name, and you know theirs.
- You have approached members on rule violations directly and handled it professionally.
- You have brought forward at least one idea that improved the facility or increased class participation.
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for the duration of a shift.
- Bending, reaching, and lifting or re-racking equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Cleaning and sanitizing equipment and surfaces throughout each shift.
