Senior Assistant Superintendent

About the position

The Senior Assistant Superintendent is a leadership role on the agronomy team at Gentle Creek Country Club. Working directly with the Golf Course Superintendent, this position plans, executes, and supervises golf course maintenance activities to maintain high-quality playing conditions.

The role leads maintenance staff, supports safety and quality standards, and serves as acting Superintendent when needed.\n\nThe position combines hands-on agronomy expertise with operational oversight, including turf and irrigation management, staff development, recordkeeping, budgeting support, and assistance with course projects and special events.

Responsibilities

Assist in planning and carrying out golf course maintenance practices, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, and pest management.Supervise, train, mentor, and develop crew members while promoting accountability, teamwork, and safety.Inspect greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and landscaped areas, and monitor turf health and environmental conditions.Schedule, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation systems and implement water management strategies.Support chemical and fertilizer applications in compliance with local and state regulations; plan fertility, disease, weed, and insect control.Maintain records of agronomic practices, equipment use, and inventory; assist with budgeting, purchasing, and resource allocation.Assist with renovations, drainage work, and special event setups.Serve as Superintendent in the Superintendent’s absence.Requirements

3–5+ years of golf course maintenance experience with leadership responsibilities.Strong knowledge of warm-season turfgrass management, preferably Bermuda, irrigation systems, and water management.Texas pesticide applicator’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days.Leadership, communication, and organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence.Nice-to-haves

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field.Benefits
