About the Role
Berkeley Hall Club is seeking an enthusiastic, determined, and innovative Golf Course Superintendent to lead the South Course. The position is open because our superintendent of more than 22 years has moved on to run his own operation, and that is exactly the kind of career step we want everyone on our team to be ready for.
We are looking for a leader who will bring fresh eyes to a mature operation, challenge how and why we do things, act with a real sense of urgency, and develop the next generation of assistant superintendents along the way.
ABOUT BERKELEY HALL
Berkeley Hall is a private, 36-Hole Tom Fazio Designed, member-owned golf community in the heart of the Lowcountry, between Hilton Head Island and Savannah. Both courses are core golf layouts with no interior homes or roads, and at roughly 5.3 homesites per hole, Berkeley Hall is among the lowest-density private communities in the Southeast. Our members are passionate golfers who expect great conditions.
THE SOUTH COURSE
The South Course is Fazio’s classic parkland design: live oaks, loblolly pines, tree-lined fairways, lakes, and bold green complexes set against the marsh of the Okatie River. It is a beautiful golf course and a demanding place to grow grass, with a mature canopy and the heat, humidity, and disease pressure that come with coastal South Carolina.
- Greens: TifEagle bermudagrass
- Fairways: Celebration bermudagrass, overseeded
- Tees and roughs: Tees Tahoma 31, Tifeagle, Zoysia, Rough Tifsport
- Annual rounds: 27,000
- Maintenance staff: 21
- Operating budget: $2.6 Million
- Irrigation: Watertronics Pump Station (2024), Toro Irrigation (2001)
THE OPPORTUNITY
More than two decades of steady leadership built a strong foundation and a team that knows this property. The next superintendent’s job is to build on it: look at every program, practice, and process with fresh eyes, keep what works, and change what doesn’t. We are not looking for a caretaker. We want someone who asks “why do we do it this way?” and has the conviction to act on the answer.

- A department invested in technology and data, including GreenKeeper, TurfRad, USGA Deacon, and John Deere Operations Center, and actively evaluating autonomous mowing

- A club that develops its people and celebrates when they move up
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Enthusiastic and determined. You bring energy to the shop every morning, and it is contagious.
- A strong sense of urgency. When you see a problem, you own it, and it gets handled today, not next week.
- An outside-the-box thinker. You question habits, test new approaches, and use data to prove what works.
- Efficiency-minded. You look at labor, equipment, and inputs and find better ways to deliver the same or better conditions.
- A developer of people. You measure success by is your assistant ready for your responsibility when you move on.
- A clear, visible communicator with the crew, the Director, the golf professional staff, committees, and members.
