POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Head Superintendent works in all areas of maintenance operations, especially athletic fields. This position will generally involve the performance of manual tasks requiring skilled and semi-skilled work or special knowledge acquired through on-the-job training or experience. The Assistant Head Superintendent will supervise and assist co-workers in completing various tasks and day-to-day maintenance duties as required. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, etc. Facility Maintenance Team MembersAssign, oversee, and assist seasonal team members in the completion of maintenance tasksManage and supervise team members and contractors in the performance of turf field maintenance activities, including cultural practices, irrigation, integrated pest management, and completion of renovation projectsMow, trim, edge, sod, aerate and irrigate athletic fields and general ground areas of the park using different pieces of grounds maintenance equipmentOperate, maintain, and repair irrigation systemOversee and manage all pesticide applications Oversee all field-related projects including but not limited to sod replacements, new field installations, aerification, top dressing, etc.Prepare all playing surfaces to meet the unique needs of each tournament groupAssist in the training of field team members in proper care and maintenance of athletic fields, including game preparation and logo paintingPeriodically serve as the division's on-duty representative during times of high-volume field use, such as evenings, weekends, and special events/tournamentsAssist in the completion of needed off-season renovation projects on all aspects of athletic fieldComplete special projects and daily assignments as directed by the General Manager, Head Superintendent, or Director of Agronomy MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Associate degree in turf management, related field or equivalent experience is preferredKnowledge/experience maintaining natural grass and synthetic surfacesKnowledge of irrigation repairs and maintenance is a plusCan calibrate and operate a turf spray rig for liquid chemical applicationsCan calibrate and operate a walk spreader for fertilizer applications Ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicators License within 90 days of hireAvailable and willing to work long hours and varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays Ability to follow and give written and oral instructionsAbility to promote a positive self-image and lead by exampleWORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist highMay be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop or bend into awkward positions while performing job functionsFacility has intermittent noise
