The Country Club of Ocala, a premier private club located in the heart of Central Florida, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead agronomic operations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a club that is building momentum, following its recent acquisition by Heritage Golf Group—one of the fastest growing owner-operators of private golf clubs in the country.
The club has recently completed a series of meaningful course enhancements, including bunker remodels, improved drainage systems, and upgrades to the practice facilities. With a strong ownership group and continued investment in the property, the Superintendent will play a key role in elevating course conditions and delivering an exceptional member experience.
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, conditioning, and presentation of the golf course and surrounding grounds. This individual will lead and develop the agronomy team, manage budgets and resources, and implement best-in-class agronomic practices aligned with the club’s goals and Heritage Golf Group standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead all aspects of golf course maintenance, including turf health, irrigation, fertility programs, and pest managementDevelop and execute agronomic plans that deliver consistent, high-quality playing conditionsOversee and continue to optimize recent capital improvements, including bunkers and drainage systemsManage and mentor the agronomy team, fostering a positive, accountable, and performance-driven culturePrepare and manage the department’s annual operating and capital budgetsEnsure proper maintenance and operation of irrigation systems and equipment fleetMaintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulationsCommunicate effectively with club leadership and members regarding course conditions and projectsCollaborate with the General Manager and leadership team to align course conditions with overall club strategy
Experience Requirements
Proven experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent ready to advanceStrong knowledge of warm-season turfgrass management, preferably in Florida conditionsExperience managing course renovation projects and capital improvements is highly valuedDemonstrated leadership skills with a focus on team development and retentionStrong financial acumen and experience managing budgetsExcellent communication and organizational skillsGolf Course Superintendent Association of America (GCSAA), class A.Pesticide Application certification.Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.
