Urbana Country Club blends timeless hospitality with bold innovation. We operate a luxury resort facility that includes a full-service spa, a state-of-the-art fitness center, guest suites, and a championship golf course opened in Spring 2025. ### The role in practice
The Sous Chef is a hands-on culinary leadership position assisting in the oversight of kitchen operations, supervising daily production and service, and ensuring the highest culinary standards across dining outlets, banquets, and special events. You will help shape a vibrant food culture at the Club that blends tradition with innovation and contribute to the evolution of Urbana Country Club's culinary identity.
You will support the Executive Sous Chef in all aspects of food production, quality control, and kitchen operations, and lead by example during food preparation and service to maintain consistency, creativity, and excellence. Supervising kitchen staff includes providing training, coaching, and discipline in accordance with Club standards. The role requires overseeing food preparation for dining outlets, events, and banquet operations to ensure timely execution and presentation standards.
Contributing to seasonal menu development and recipe testing is part of the position, as is ensuring compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards including HACCP protocols. You will assist with inventory management, ordering, and food cost control, monitor kitchen cleanliness and equipment maintenance, and step in to manage the kitchen in the absence of the Executive Chef. A positive, respectful kitchen culture built on teamwork, open communication, and accountability is expected.
### Qualifications, schedule, and certifications
Minimum of 3–5 years progressive kitchen experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or Sous Chef role. Degree or certification from a recognized culinary school preferred. A strong understanding of fine dining, banquet production, and scratch kitchen operations is required. Candidates must have the ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-paced, quality-focused environment and demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills with a passion for mentoring others. Serv. Safe or equivalent food safety certification (or willing to obtain within 30 days) is required. The schedule is flexible and includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and Club events. ### Compensation and full-time benefits
Pay Range: $50-55k - competitive compensation, based on experience.
