About the Role
Our client, a premier golf and leisure resort located in Indianapolis, Indiana, US , is seeking an accomplished and passionate Senior Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the meticulous maintenance and conditioning of their championship-level golf courses. This esteemed role is responsible for ensuring that the grounds meet the highest standards of playability, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability, providing an exceptional experience for members and guests. The Senior Golf Course Superintendent will manage all aspects of turfgrass management, including irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, mowing, and course renovation projects. You will lead and mentor a team of groundskeepers and mechanics, develop and manage the agronomic program, and oversee the operational budget for the golf course maintenance department. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of turfgrass science, advanced agronomic practices, and a deep understanding of golf course operations. Experience with sustainable maintenance practices, water management, and integrated pest management (IPM) is highly valued. Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and manage the annual agronomic plan for all golf course playing surfaces. Supervise, train, and mentor a team of Assistant Superintendents, mechanics, and groundskeepers. Oversee all aspects of turfgrass maintenance, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, aeration, pest and disease control, and bunker maintenance. Manage the golf course maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficient resource allocation. Operate and maintain all golf course maintenance equipment, including scheduling repairs and replacements. Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures for all maintenance staff and operations. Monitor environmental conditions and manage irrigation systems to ensure optimal turf health and water conservation. Plan and execute course renovation projects, working with contractors and management as needed. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, inputs, and expenditures. Collaborate with golf professionals and resort management to ensure course conditions meet member and guest expectations. Stay current with advancements in turfgrass science, agronomy, and golf course management best practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field is highly preferred. GCSAA Class A certification is desirable. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or assistant superintendent role. In-depth knowledge of turfgrass physiology, soil science, entomology, and plant pathology. Proven experience in irrigation system management, including scheduling and repair. Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills. Familiarity with golf course construction and renovation practices. Proficiency in budgeting and financial management. Knowledge of environmental stewardship and sustainable maintenance practices. Valid driver's license and a strong safety record.
