SUMMARY: Help diagnose specific diseases and treat insects that affect critical areas of the course. Identify and treat unwanted vegetation, using both preventive and curative methods. Assist in the use and establishment of Integrated Pest Management program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Under the direction of the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent, spray prescribed amounts of fertilizer, insecticide, herbicide and fungicide, using hoses and truck-mounted tank, taking care not to injure turf or shrubs
• Assist Superintendent with correct calibration of all spray equipment
• Fill sprayer tank with chemicals and water according to formula and direction given by Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent
• Maintain daily spray records
• Post notification of any spray applications to members/guests
• Assist in maintaining proper chemical inventory and storage
• Maintain chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations
• Perform routine safety inspections of all spraying equipment
• Cut grass, edge, and trim all areas
• Maintain sand traps, change cups and markers, service ball washers, cart paths, and landscape areas
• Clean and maintain rest rooms when needed
• Read, understand, and keep current with all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
• Equipment operation
• Other duties as assigned by Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Six months’ experience (full time) spraying and applying chemicals on a golf course
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as proportions and percentages
Reasoning Ability:
Must be able to solve simple problems; ability to solve practical problems; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
• Must be certified, by applicable state, to apply chemicals
• Must have valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a standard transmission.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Must be able to work in temperatures exceeding 90 degrees in the summer and below 20 degrees in the winter.
