DIRECTOR OF AGRONOMY – POSITION OVERVIEW
At the Mizner Country Club, the Director of Agronomy reports directly to the General Manager/COO. The DOA will lead and manage their department to ensure superb golfing conditions throughout the season. They are responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Club’s golf course and landscaping.
Frequent, open, and transparent communication with the General Manager, CFO/AGM, Director of Golf, and Green Chair is required. The DOA is expected to lead the golf course maintenance team as well as provide information, recommendations, and leadership to the GM and Golf Committee to provide superior golfing conditions.
The DOA is expected to ensure the golf course is consistently in excellent condition and with a high level of detail. Continuing education and staying at the forefront of research and technology are necessary for success. In addition, the DOA will provide creative leadership and foster a culture of mentorship, continuing education, and development of future turf professionals. The DOA must have a natural, “sincere engagement” with members and staff, a love of the game of golf, and a passion for surpassing membership expectations for course conditioning.
INITIAL PRIORITIES OF THE NEW DIRECTOR OF AGRONOMY
Evaluate the course conditions, especially the greens, and develop an action plan for the summer maintenance program.
Review Standard Operating Procedures
Review soil tests and necessary nutritional inputs to all areas
Plan summer/July bunker renovation
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will be a Superintendent with at least 5 years of experience at a golf course known for exceptional golf course conditioning.
Oversees all golf course grounds, including turf, landscaping, trees, shrubs, and plant materials
Manages maintenance, repair, and inventory of all course equipment
Develops and executes annual operating budgets; contributes to long-term capital and agronomic planning
Establishes and implements agronomic programs, including fertilization, irrigation, drainage, and water management
Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal safety, chemical use, storage, and environmental regulations
Maintains accurate records for maintenance, regulatory compliance, and personnel
Communicates regularly with golf professionals, club leadership, and committees on course conditions, plans, and events
Leads, trains, and develops the grounds team; oversees performance management and professional development
Oversees construction, renovation, and long-range course improvement projects
Stays current on industry trends through ongoing education and professional engagement
Attends meetings and performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS
A degree in turf management or a related field of study is required.
Certification is preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The club offers an excellent bonus and benefits package, including association membership.
