Role Description
The Sous Chef at Prairie Dunes Country Club will assist the Executive Chef in the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring high-quality food preparation and presentation. Duties include supervising kitchen staff, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, managing food inventory, and assisting in menu creation. The Sous Chef will also oversee food safety and ensure compliance with health regulations. This is a full-time, on-site position located in Hutchinson, KS, with opportunities to work in a collaborative and dynamic culinary environment.
Qualifications
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar leadership culinary role
• Culinary degree or formal culinary training preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, kitchen operations, and food safety standards
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and member service
Essential Functions
Kitchen Leadership & Operations
• Act as the lead kitchen manager in the absence of the Executive Chef
• Supervise and coordinate daily food production for all dining outlets and events
• Ensure kitchen operations run efficiently, safely, and in a timely manner
• Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and consistency
Culinary Execution
• Assist in the development, preparation, and execution of menus, including daily features and weekly specials
• Oversee the preparation of soups, sauces, and specialty items to ensure adherence to standardized recipes, portioning, and presentation
• Ensure all dishes are prepared and plated to the highest quality standards
Staff Supervision & Development
• Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management of kitchen staff
• Provide ongoing coaching to promote skill development and consistency
• Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment
Food Safety & Sanitation
• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
• Monitor proper food storage, rotation, and handling procedures
• Regularly inspect kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and proper operation
Administrative & Financial Oversight
• Support cost control measures to ensure efficient and profitable kitchen operations
• Assist with inventory management, ordering, and menu costing
• Prepare reports, schedules, and other administrative tasks as assigned
Problem Solving & Service Excellence
• Address and resolve operational challenges quickly and effectively
• Support a culture of excellence in member and guest service
• Maintain professionalism and composure in a high-paced environment
Starting pay is commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.
Proven experience as a Sous Chef or senior kitchen role in a high-end restaurant or country club. Culinary degree or relevant certification required. Strong leadership and communication skills. In-depth knowledge of culinary techniques, food preparation, and kitchen operations. Serv-Safe Certified is preferred, but not required. Ability to effectively and professionally deal with members, some of whom may require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy.

Upon employment, all associates are required to fully comply with the company’s rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of the facilities.
