About the Role
Our esteemed client is looking for an experienced and dedicated Head Golf Course Superintendent to manage and maintain their premier golf facilities in Boston, Massachusetts, US . This role demands a comprehensive understanding of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, pest and disease control, and budget management. The Superintendent will oversee all aspects of golf course operations, ensuring an immaculate playing surface that meets the highest standards of quality and playability throughout the year. This is a hands-on position requiring a strong leadership presence and a commitment to excellence.
Primary responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing comprehensive agronomic plans for turf maintenance, including fertilization, mowing, aeration, and irrigation. Managing and directing a team of groundskeepers, providing training and performance evaluations. Overseeing the operation and maintenance of all golf course equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency. Managing the golf course maintenance budget, including labor, materials, and capital expenditures. Implementing integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to control diseases, insects, and weeds in an environmentally responsible manner. Monitoring weather conditions and adjusting maintenance practices accordingly. Ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations and best management practices. Collaborating with golf professionals and management to enhance the overall guest experience. Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance activities, expenses, and resource utilization. Planning and executing course renovation or improvement projects as needed.
Candidates should possess a degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. A minimum of 7 years of experience in golf course management, with at least 3 years in a Superintendent role, is required. Certification from a recognized professional organization (e.g., GCSAA) is a significant asset. Thorough knowledge of turfgrass varieties, soil science, and pest management is essential. Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills are crucial for success in this role.
