About the Role
Overview
The responsibilities for the Golf Course Professional/General Manager will include but not be limited to leading all aspects of club operations, including golf services, food and beverages, events, and facility management including hiring and managing all staff, to ensure exceptional experience for members and guests. This role oversees daily operations, pro shop, and dining facilities, establishes service standards, and implements effective policies while managing budgets, monitoring revenue streams, and driving profitability. The General Manager provides leadership to department heads, including the Event Planner, supporting the successful execution of tournaments, weddings, and corporate events. Additionally, the position focuses on staff development, member relations, and strategic sales and marketing efforts to grow membership and event business. Ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining high-quality facilities, and fostering a positive, team-oriented environment are also key components of the role.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Golf Course Operations
• Develop and execute business strategies that achieve financial and operational goals for the property.
• Build strong relationships with ownership, members, guests, and key stakeholders.
• Maintain active involvement in PGA certification requirements when applicable, though management responsibilities remain the primary focus.
Operational Management
• Monitor pace of play and tee time scheduling to ensure optimal course flow and customer satisfaction.
• Conduct regular inspections of the golf course to evaluate course conditions and operational readiness.
• Work closely with the Maintenance Superintendent to ensure the course is maintained according to golf industry standards and best agronomic practices.
Financial & Revenue Management
• Review and control expenses including labor, inventory, equipment, turf maintenance materials, utilities, and uniforms.
• Analyze and adjust pricing strategies for green fees, merchandise, and services to maximize revenue.
• Monitor tee time reservations and booking strategies to ensure optimal course utilization.
Guest Experience & Customer Service
• Demonstrate strong leadership in hospitality and customer service.
• Create a welcoming environment that prioritizes positive guest interactions and satisfaction.
• Empower employees to deliver exceptional service and resolve guest concerns effectively.
• Establish clear service standards and expectations for all staff members.
Team Leadership & Human Resources
• Recruit, hire, and train golf operations staff to meet the operational needs of the course.
• Provide leadership, mentoring, and ongoing development for employees.
• Ensure employees are treated fairly, respectfully, and equitably in the workplace.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED with 2+ years of experience in golf or course management, required.
OR
• Associate degree (2-year) from an accredited university in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Sports Management, or a related field, with no prior experience required.
• PGA membership or working toward PGA certification preferred.
