About the Role
Description
This position is responsible for assisting the Superintendents in supervising crew, dispersing daily crew work assignments, and participating in the maintenance of the golf courses.
Ensures golf course grounds are maintained at pristine, tournament quality conditions
Assists in supervising and training a crew of 20 plus employees
Maintains and directs repairs to irrigation system
Ensures the application and management of fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Maintain required certifications and application records.
Monitor turf health and identify disease, insect, or environmental stress issues.
Coordinate with equipment operators regarding maintenance and repair needs.
Ensure proper operation and care of maintenance equipment.
Assist in maintaining maintenance facilities, storage areas, and inventory controls.
Monitor supplies and assist with ordering materials as needed.
Follows all state and local safety and environmental standards
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations.
Assist with safety meetings and trainings
Other duties as directed.
Requirements
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
Extensive knowledge of turf, soil, fertilizers, pesticides, golf course equipment and irrigation technology
Previous supervisory experience preferred
Possess strong communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
Ability to work flexible schedule and long hours when necessary
Keen attention to detail and strong sense of urgency
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS
2 or 4 year degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Facilities Maintenance or related field preferred but not mandatory.
SC Certified pesticide applicators license or able to obtain one within 60 days.
SENSORY/PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Endure long hours of being exposed to all types of weather conditions
Required to walk and stand for lengthy periods of time
Frequently requires the ability to bend, squat, twist, kneel, and climb
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-70 lbs.
