About the Role
General Description
The Head Golf Professional will assist the Director of Golf in overseeing and managing the golf operations. Working closely and cooperatively with other departments will be vital to success in this role. The Head Golf Professional will be responsible for executing the vision of the Director of Golf and serve as the key decision maker in his absence. Daily management of both the Professional Staff as well as the Outside Operations team will require a highly organized and intuitive problem solver. Must have an outgoing personality with exceptional customer service, passion, leadership, and communication skills.
Essential Functions
Maintains an active membership status in the PGA of America.
Responsible for all aspects of the entire Golf Operation including but not limited to the golf shop operation, golf instruction, outside operations team, practice areas, tournament program, and golf shop merchandising.
Create and foster a friendly and warm culture around the Club.
Promote and teach the game of golf.
Plays golf with Club Members and their guests to promote a golf enthusiastic atmosphere.
Treat all staff in a consistent manner.
Assist the Director of Golf in scheduling, recruitment, hiring, training, and retention of a professional staff that successfully services the needs of the membership.
Assists the merchandiser in physical inventories and display of merchandise.
Assists with the Director of Golf in preparation of budgets by reviewing both revenue and expenses on a monthly and annual basis.
Manages the Handicap System and the Cap Patrol System.
Responsible for all hard good inventory, accounts receivable and payables.
Assists the Director of Golf in developing the Club’s annual Golf Tournament Schedule.
Ensures proper collection of daily charges and fees for all golf related activities.
Maintain monthly records relating to player and guest rounds and other statistics.
Manages the daily player assistant schedule.
Develop a close relationship with the General Manager, Controller, Clubhouse Manager, Food & Beverage, Golf Course Superintendent, Event Planners, Communications, and Human Resources.
Communicate with the membership regarding all golf related news and updates. To be successful in this capacity, the highest skill level of written and verbal communication is necessary.
Enforce all Club rules governing golf course usage while representing Ballantyne Country Club’s missions and values.
Mentor, train the Assistant Professional staff, and prepare them for career advancement.
Continue to develop in the golf game while competing in Carolinas PGA events as well as playing casual rounds with the Ballantyne Country Club membership.
Performs other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Certified Professional or Class A PGA Member in good standing.
Broad experience working with men, women, and juniors/children – we are a complete family focused organization.
Valid Driver’s License. If driving company vehicles, must maintain acceptable driving record.
Solid financial management skills with strengths in labor costs, purchasing, internal controls, accounts payable and receivables.
Computer literate, including Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, members, and the general public.
Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Education/Experience
5+ years’ experience as an Assistant Golf Professional at a premier property.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from four-year college or university recommended.
Private club experience required.
