About the Role
Our client, a prestigious golf club located in **Chicago, Illinois, US**, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Golf Course Superintendent to oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance and operations. This critical role involves managing a dedicated groundskeeping team, ensuring the highest standards of turf health, playability, and aesthetic appeal throughout the year. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of agronomy, irrigation systems, pest and disease management, and sustainable maintenance practices.
Responsibilities will include:
Developing and implementing comprehensive short-term and long-term agronomic plans. Supervising, training, and evaluating the performance of all grounds maintenance staff. Managing the departmental budget, including labor, materials, and equipment. Overseeing the operation and maintenance of all golf course equipment and facilities. Implementing effective pest, disease, and weed control programs using integrated pest management (IPM) principles. Monitoring soil conditions, water quality, and weather patterns to make informed decisions. Ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations and club policies. Collaborating with the golf professional staff and club management to meet the needs of the membership. Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance activities, chemical applications, and budget expenditures. Spearheading continuous improvement initiatives for course conditioning and sustainability.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in golf course management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. GCSAA Class A certification or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe. Extensive knowledge of turfgrass species, soil science, entomology, and plant pathology. Proficiency in irrigation system management, including design, operation, and troubleshooting. Experience with budgeting, financial management, and staff supervision. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license and a willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
