About the Role
Our client, a premier golf resort located in **Charlotte, North Carolina, US**, is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Senior Golf Course Superintendent to oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance and operations. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the highest standards of turf quality, playability, and aesthetic appeal throughout the year. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of agronomy, turfgrass management, irrigation systems, pest and disease control, and the safe operation of all maintenance equipment.
Responsibilities: Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic plans for all playing surfaces, including greens, tees, fairways, and roughs. Supervise, train, and manage a team of groundskeepers, equipment operators, and irrigation technicians, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Oversee the daily operations of the maintenance department, including scheduling, equipment maintenance, and material management. Manage the irrigation system, ensuring efficient water use and optimal turf health. Implement and manage integrated pest management (IPM) programs to control diseases, insects, and weeds, prioritizing environmentally sound practices. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, including fertilization, pesticide application, irrigation, and labor. Collaborate with golf professionals and management to ensure course conditions meet the expectations of members and guests. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Oversee the budget for the golf course maintenance department, managing expenses effectively. Stay current with the latest advancements in turfgrass management and golf course operations. Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in golf course management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field is strongly preferred. GCSAA certification is a plus. Extensive knowledge of warm-season and cool-season turfgrass species and their management. Proficiency in irrigation system management and water conservation techniques. Experience with pest and disease identification and control strategies. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively manage a team and delegate tasks. Proficiency in record-keeping and budget management. Valid driver's license and a willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as dictated by weather and play. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
