About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Head Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the immaculate condition and sustainable management of a premier golf facility located in San Antonio, Texas, US . This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for all aspects of golf course maintenance, from turfgrass management and irrigation systems to pest control and bunker maintenance. You will lead a team of groundskeepers, ensuring a high standard of presentation and playability throughout the year. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of turf science, agronomy, and the latest maintenance techniques. Responsibilities will include:
Developing and implementing comprehensive agronomic plans, including fertilization, irrigation, and pest management strategies. Managing the daily operations of the maintenance department, including staff supervision, scheduling, and training. Overseeing the calibration and efficient use of all maintenance equipment. Monitoring course conditions daily to ensure optimal playability and aesthetic appeal. Managing the course maintenance budget effectively, seeking cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality. Ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations and implementing sustainable practices. Maintaining detailed records of all maintenance activities, including weather, irrigation, and chemical applications. Collaborating with golf professionals and management to meet the needs of members and guests. Planning and executing major renovation or construction projects as needed. Upholding a strong safety culture within the maintenance team. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent or 2 years as a Superintendent, preferably with GCSAA certification or eligibility. A degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field is highly desirable. Proven leadership and team management skills are essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities are required for effective interaction with staff, management, and club members. A strong understanding of irrigation systems, drainage, and soil science is critical. Knowledge of turfgrass varieties common to the region and their specific needs is also important. This position requires a commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry best practices. The ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed, is necessary. You will be responsible for creating an exceptional playing experience for golfers while ensuring the long-term health and sustainability of the golf course.
