About the Role
Our client, a premier golf club, is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the meticulous maintenance and development of their world-class golf facilities. This is a leadership position responsible for ensuring the highest standards of turfgrass health, playability, and aesthetic appeal. You will manage a team of groundskeepers, direct all agronomic practices, and oversee the operation of maintenance equipment and irrigation systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of turf management science, a proven ability to lead and motivate a team, and a commitment to environmental stewardship. A strong focus on budget management and strategic planning for course improvements is essential.
Primary Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive agronomic programs for the golf course, including irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, and mowing strategies. Supervise, train, and mentor a team of golf course maintenance staff, ensuring efficient and safe work practices. Oversee the daily operations of the maintenance department, including scheduling, work assignments, and quality control. Manage the golf course budget, including labor, equipment, supplies, and capital expenditures, ensuring cost-effectiveness. Operate and maintain a wide range of golf course maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, and sprayers; ensure equipment is in optimal working condition. Develop and manage the irrigation system to ensure proper water distribution and conservation. Implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to minimize chemical use and promote environmental sustainability. Work closely with golf course management, the Greens Committee, and other stakeholders to plan and execute course improvement projects. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, including applications, budgets, and staff performance. Foster a positive and productive work environment for the entire maintenance team. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in turfgrass science, golf course management techniques, and related technologies. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field is strongly preferred. Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or assistant superintendent role. GCSAA Class A certification or the ability to obtain it within a reasonable timeframe is highly desirable. Extensive knowledge of turfgrass physiology, soil science, entomology, and plant pathology. Proficiency in irrigation system management and water conservation techniques. Experience with budgeting, equipment management, and staff supervision. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Knowledge of local pests and diseases common to the region. Commitment to environmental best practices and sustainable golf course management.
